Hood To Woods

Background

Hood to Woods was a groundbreaking initiative supported by the NIH Common Fund. The program explores how nature impacts the physical and mental health of transitional-age Black, Latinx, Pilipinx, and Pacific Islander youth.

We were hired to produce a short documentary that uplifts their stories—blending cinematic storytelling with public health data. From pre-production through editing, we worked closely with researchers, youth leaders, and program mentors to ensure authenticity, cultural relevance, and scientific integrity.

project goals

Reclaiming Nature wasn’t just a project—it was an opportunity to bring research to life. Our role was to help the Hood to Woods team tell their story in a way that honored both their scientific findings and the communities they serve.

  • Help a research program communicate findings through visual storytelling

  • Elevate the perspectives of 16-24 youth of color and community voice

  • Create a short film that can be used for grant reports, academic presentations, and policy briefings

  • Collaborate with public health researchers to amplify scientific insights

the result

The final video premiered at a local research convening at San Francisco State and was shared with stakeholders across academia, policy, and youth leadership. It’s now being used in NIH grant reporting, social media outreach, and in conversations with school districts and public agencies to advocate for equity-driven outdoor programming.
